District Contract Negotiations Stall

Parties head to mediation, school district negotiations over contract terms fail

Education is important but in economic crisis furlough days and cuts in staff are often the only “solution.” After 150 days of negotiation between the teacher association and management team in Ontario, Oregon, the parties head to mediation.

In fixed-pie negotiations with bottom-line budgetary restrictions, negotiations often end in frustration. Despite creative proposals proffered by the teacher association, the management team opted for mediation which will hopefully be more successful than the previous negotiations.
