In 2010, India’s Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) began aggressively working to establish itself as a “go to” centre for arbitration in Asia Pacific in competition with institutions in Australia, Singapore, China and Hong Kong.
With transparent competitive fee arrangements, aggressive recruiting of arbitrators and marketing to institutions like the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and its own set of rules, the KLRCA is positioning itself as an attractive institution for arbitration. Time will tell whether the aggressive revitalization will result in higher caseload for KLRCA.
