Ivory Coast Elections Debacle Requires Skilled Mediator

After a month of dispute over the elections in Ivory Coast, the African Union asked the Kenyan Prime minister to serve as mediator. Because the incumbent president refuses to recognize the surprise win by the opposition party, the country has fallen into chaos.

Mediation and peace talks administered by various heads of states may be the only solution to resolve this high profile dispute. The African Union, ECOWAS, and African heads of states must use political and public pressure to convince Mr. Gbagbo to make way for Alassane Ouattara.
