Quantas Labor Dispute Ends

PM Gilliard’s Mediation Contributed to Early Settlement of Qantas Row

Australian Prime Minister Julie Gilliard’s intercession into ongoing mediations between Quantas and its labor unions is seen as one of the major reasons for the prompt resolution. At the height of the industrial row, Gilliard called on watchdog Fair Work Australia to put an end to the crisis so as to prevent further negative effects on the economy.
Engineers, pilots and baggage handlers at Quantas had protested in response to cost-cutting measures which Quantas management had implemented. Until Gilliard stepped in, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce had grounded all flights in response to the strike’s effective paralyzation of the company’s operations.

There should always be the one to move and to lead for the society to become more progressive. By all means the leader should always be open-minded for more possibilities and should have the power to lead and to convince his/her people.
