The Australia government is now utilizing mediation to radically shift its approach to dealing with homeless youth by preventing the family breakdown before it leads to homelessness. Maureen Sheehan from housing services says, “What causes homelessness for young people on the whole is family breakdown. We’ve got a raft of services which are aimed at supporting young people where there is a breakdown in the family, and where it’s appropriate, reunite with their family or to support those young people so that they don’t actually lose their accommodation.”
