Human Rights Abuses in Zimbabwe

SADC, AU complicit in Zim abuses

Amnesty International speaks out criticizing Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) for allowing human rights abuses from President Robert Mugabe’s supporters. President Jacob Zuma and his mediation team have been unable to effectively rein in Mugabe who has violated terms of 2008 power-sharing agreement.

The SADC and the AU have “failed to flex their muscles against human rights excesses.” Without these organizations utilizing the power they have, it is difficult to enforce the power-sharing agreement.
