Coup Inevitable- IDASA 

International Mediation Needs to Play a Role in Future of Zimbabwe

According to the latest report by the Institute of Democracy in South Africa (IDASA), if the Southern African Development Community (SADC) does not push for great security sector reforms, Zimbabwe could find itself engulfed in total military rule once President Robert Mugabe, age 87, dies or loses the forthcoming elections.

The complex political situation in Zimbabwe could lead to a coup d’état upon Mugabe’s departure. The report urges South Africa and other SADC states to engage the international community to start charting a roadmap that ensures a successful mediation, and ultimately peace in Zimbabwe.
