Water Issues Lead New Mexico to Creative Strategic Thinking 

What does NM Water Planning have to do with California and Water
as a Human Right?

New Mexico recently completed its fifty years water plan for the Middle Grand Region, which has been in the making for nine years. In light of teeth-less legislation in California addressing water issues as a human right, New Mexico sought to empower a regional body to take control of the water situation that was not subject to the demands of corporate pressure and private interests.

As New Mexico continues to face increasing water demand, the proposed recommendations include examining state and federal law on water rights and exploring the rights and interests of all users. Equally important, the proposed recommendations suggest creating a mediation or reconciliation board to resolve conflicts between users and stakeholders.
