Did Facebook Save the Social Workers’ Stike?

Israeli social workers have been striking for more than two weeks seeking a change in salary and expansion of salary increase to jobs that have been privatized. However, it was not until social-networking and online communications exploded that the protesters began to gain traction—enough to reject the agreement that was currently on the table.

Santy Goldman said, “I have always known that one must bring demands to negotiations, and that there is a process by which positions are changed.” In implementing online technology, the social workers looked to Egypt as an example of the power of the internet. Clearly technology is changing how negotiations occur on a mass scale.
