Mutual End to a 10-year-old Legal Tangle

Mediation ends 10-year-old Legal Battle in India

A newly formed family court mediation committee in Pune, India has resolved a divorce case that has been going on for ten years. This case was the first resolved by the committee, formed in January 2011, and may signal a change in family court proceedings in India.

The article nicely outlines a case study that demonstrates the productive use of mediation in divorce. The mediator in the case noted that without mediation “the battle could have prolonged for the next 25 years.” It is encouraging to see a divorce case in India end in “mutual consent” with both parties agreeing to live with “freedom and dignity.”
