Venezuela says Libya OKs Chavez mediation plan

Concerns about Venezuelan-backed Mediation Plan for Libyan Conflict

Moammar Gadhafi has allowed Venezuela to create a mediation plan and to “take all measures necessary to select the members and coordinate their participation in that dialogue.” The proposal has won support among leaders in Latin America who hope that the two week uprising can lead to a peaceful outcome.

With Gadhafi and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez being both friends and allies, it is not surprising that the US, Italy, and Gadhafi’s opponents in Libya do not like the idea. Mediation only works when the mediation process and the mediator are perceived as neutral and impartial.
