African Union leaders from South Africa, Uganda, Mali, Mauritania, and Congo gathered in Libya this weekend to draft a peace plan to resolve the Libyan dispute. While Gadhafi’s delegation has accepted the AU proposal which will be released in a statement soon, the AU leaders will travel to rebel-held Benghazi today to discuss the peace plan.
While the leaders of the uprising have rejected any ceasefire plan which involves leaving either Gadhafi or his sons in power, it will be interesting to see the dialogue unfold. Whether the AU leaders have drafted an agreement that serves both sides’ needs is yet to be seen.
