Stalemate Continues in Yemen

Yemen’s Opposition Rejects Mediation Offer

Protesters are demanding the ouster of Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh who has agreed to leave, but “just not yet.” As a result, opposition parties rejected an offer on Thursday to join the Gulf Cooperation Council mediation in Saudi Arabia because the proposal to end the standoff does not specify how the President will transfer power.

In light of Yemeni demonstrators recent “Friday of Rage,” “Friday of Warning,” “Friday of Dignity,” and “Friday of No Return,” commentators suggest “perhaps a better theme for their continuing mass protests is ‘Friday of Stalemate.’”
