Medvedev Ponders Creation of Russian court on Intellectual Property Rights

In a joint meeting with the Commission on Modernization and the Board of the Skolkovo high-tech hub, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev asked his administration to consider creating a special court for intellectual property rights in Russia. The special court for IP rights would operate within the Russian system of arbitration courts.

The idea to create this special court may help Russia gain access into the WTO since “Intellectual property violations have long served as a major hurdle to Russia’s entry to WTO, as reputed piracy lairs in Russia remain standing intact.”
