Mediation in Albania

USAID Assists Albania with Court Mediation

In April 2011, Albania instituted laws to expand mediation. Additionally, USAID recently signed an agreement with Albanian officials to support the current mediation services for commercial cases and to introduce mediation of family court cases.

The funding by USAID is part of a bigger plan to establish three mediation programs in Albania by 2015. The shift toward mediation is an attempt to “bolster watchdog and anticorruption roles of civil society organizations and media; and strengthen the legal profession and legal education in Albania.”
