Concerns About Nuclear Power Plant in Bulgaria

Belene Arbitration Is Possible

Government officials in Bulgaria are squabbling over the cost of the nuclear power plant that is to be built in Belene. The Bulgaria government believes the plant should cost approximately 7 billion dollars while Russian contractor assesses the cost at 10 billion. If the contract is not signed in two months, then the Russian contractor and the Bulgarian government will be forced to arbitrate the dispute in Paris.

With all the concern about nuclear energy and the safety concerns that arise when nuclear power plants malfunction, it is not surprising that the Bulgarian Prime Minister is concerned about the plant being built.
