Judge "Forcefully" Encourages Mediation

Judge Recommends Mediation as NFL, Players Plead Their Case

After hearing arguments from the NFL and the players on Wednesday, the Judge forcefully encouraged the parties to utilize mediation. Attorney for the NFL, David Boies, said that “federal mediation is the fastest, best way to get us to the football season.”

Although mediation is an ideal solution, the parties cannot agree on whether mediation should resume collective bargaining talks or settlement talks of the antitrust suit. While the work stoppage (NFL’s first since 1987) threatens the 2011 season, the parties ask the fans for “patience.”
