Branford: A Town at Peace  

Mediator Intervention One Town at a Time

Joe Brummer, a local resident or Branford, Connecticut, has brought his mediation skills to help the town become the first in the state to utilize non-violent communication in all sectors. Brummer has been working with the Branford police department, the board of education, and the town hall to help establish mediation training and services.

Brummer said, “Wouldn’t it be nice to come into a whole town and teach conflict management skills? Wouldn’t it be a nice place live?” While Brummer has hoped to offer mediation services on a large scale for a town, the initiative in Branford has transpired after a chance meeting with Branford Chief of Police at a conference. The initiative will require approximately $30,000 to $50,000 for a sustainable, three-year pilot.
