Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh is still resisting mediation offered by a Gulf Cooperation Council. The situation continues to worsen and yesterday 38 lives were claimed by the violence.
Countries are putting pressure on Yemen. The wealthy Gulf neighbors have called for “an immediate halt to the bloody clashes between regime supporters and armed clansmen, as well as Saleh’s departure from office.” The EU is considering taking action to implement new measures to put pressure on the regime if Saleh remains stubborn. US president Barack Obama asked Saleh to “immediately honor his promise to cede power.”
