Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-SunGard) tested positive for a banned substance known as Clenbuterol during last year’s Tour de France which he claims was from eating contaminated meat which contained minute traces of the drug. Although his hearing with the Court of Arbitration for Sports was set for June 6-8, all parties have agreed that they need more time to study the case details.
Effectively, this delay in arbitration will allow Contador to ride this year’s Tour de France. At a recent press conference, he dodged questions relating to his CAS hearing and said he was optimistic that that truth was on his side. He said, “I don’t know much about it because my lawyers are a looking after it all. But I’m optimistic because when the truth in on your side, you’re can stay serene, so I’m very optimistic.”
