The Role of Mediators in Ongoing Conflicts 

Mediators Rush to Prevent Region from Sinking Into Chaos

Several conflicts in the Middle East are threatening to become long-running stalemates with the appearance of characteristics of civil war. “Besides Libya and Yemen, in Bahrain and Syria too, there seems little chance of a rapid or widely acceptable settlement. Can mediation help?”

In fact, many mediators - mostly from the region itself - are offering mediation services in an attempt to save the Arab revolution from degenerating into uncontrollable chaos. “The euphoric democratic wave of the early days has been replaced by a harsher, grimmer mood, suggesting that the revolution has entered a new and more violent phase” which makes the role of mediators even more important.
