Roumieh Hunger Strike Continues Despite Talks

Lebanon Prisoners Continue Riot

Dozens of prisoners in Roumieh, Lebanon turned violent when a large-scale riot spread throughout a jail. “Direct talks to find common ground between the demands of Roumieh prison inmates and the prison administration took place over the weekend, but a hunger strike continues in the jail.”

Rights activists believe at least two have died and more than sixty have been injured as part of the riots over the last three days. The mediation has failed to prevent more than 120 inmates from continuing the hunger strike as part of the recent demonstrations.
