UK Dealing With Libel Disputes 

Arbitration Service Launched for Libel Disputes

A new not-for-profit organization has emerged in the United Kingdom to help litigants resolve their libel disputes. The “Early Resolution” scheme was created by the High Court Judge Sir Charles Gray and Alastair Brett, and it is a voluntary binding process for parties in libel disputes to quickly and confidentially resolve their disputes without having the time and expense of High Court proceedings.

Under this scheme the arbitrator “will decide the meaning of an article or internet post, or adjudicate other issues such as whether the words or images complained about are ‘honest comment’ or ‘in the public interest.’” The rulings by the arbitrator or panel will not be appealable by the parties.
