Multi-Million Dollar Settlements

Kleen Energy Explosion Lawsuits Headed To Mediation

Since the Kleen Energy power-plant explosion that killed six workers and injured dozens in February 2010, lawyers for the Middletown plant owners, builders, and contractors and the lawyers for the dead and injured have attempted to settle a string of lawsuits. The first mediation session is set for mid-July.
Judge Robert L. Holzberg will preside as the mediator and there were more than 20 lawyers in the room when Holzberg laid the ground rules for mediation which include silence once the mediation efforts begin. With various fines issued over federal work-safety regulations and claims in the millions, this mass settlement “would rival those of the priest-abuse scandals and the L’Ambiance Plaza collapse in Bridgeport” which settled for $43 million.
