Contador's Court of Arbitration Appeal Still Pending

Cloud of Doping Suspicion Hangs Over Tour

A cloud of doping suspicion hangs over the Tour de France race, in particular over the triple champion Alberto Contador. Contador will start the race while still awaiting the appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the failed dope test in last year’s race. The Spanish federation cleared Contador of his wrongdoing but the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed.

As the overwhelming favorite, he could lose two Tour titles if the August CAS decision outcome goes against him. Tour director notes that “We wanted a quick resolution, before the Tour, but it looks like it was too much to ask,” and Contador’s presence on the Tour is another embarrassment with the case still unresolved.
