Foreclosure Mediation Explained

Learn About New Foreclosure Rights

A forum is being scheduled to help Washington homeowners facing potential foreclosure understand their rights under the Washington Foreclosure Fairness Act. Under the act, homeowners can request mediation with mortgage lenders or loan service providers through an attorney or a housing counselor. Foreclosure proceedings go ahead only if the homeowners are found to be working in bad faith.

The foreclosure prevention outreach and the Washington consumer protection Act is funded in part by lenders and services who pay $250 for every notice of default. The forum will host state representatives and legal services attorney to discuss the new rights and how homeowner can utilize the mediation services.
