High Mediation Settlement in Fiji

Fiji Records High Rate of Mediation Settlement

The Fiji Mediation Unit within the Ministry of Labor boasts an 80% settlement of mediation grievances. Singapore was the benchmark with a 75% settlement rate until Fiji surpassed it as the highest rate in the world.

The Unit opened its doors in 2008 and has settled 1,859 of the 2,363 cases and an additional 504 cases were referred to the Employment Relations Tribunal. Permanent Secretary for Labor Taito Waqa says that the mediation program is capable of resolving conflicts very effectively and is the only nation that provides mediation free of charge.
