August 24, 2011
America has been shaken in light of Congress’s near-inability to break its impasse over taxes and spending earlier this month. US Treasury bonds have been downgraded. The economy is scraping by. The debt-ceiling crisis was a frightening event. The culmination of these events? David A. Hoffman tagged it PTID for “post-traumatic impasse disorder” and believes America is suffering from it!
The truth is, impasse is on the rise: “one could dismiss this deadlock as a fluke, an anomaly – but Americans have seen the same traumatic impasses recently in state legislatures.” Hoffman sheds some light on impasse and how it occurs in the government and the steps that may be taken to help negotiations be successful.
