August 26, 2011
In Kuala Lumpur, the Chief Justice Tun Zaki Tun Azmi announced yesterday that court annexed mediation would be a free mediation program that used judges as mediators to help parties in litigation resolve disputes. The Kuala Lumpur Court Mediation Centre was established to run the pilot project.
The mediation program will allow all litigants to have mediation as an option because there is no cost and nothing to lose by trying it out. Zaki said, “This removes the feeling of being pressurized and creates a friendly atmosphere.” Zaki also hopes that “the change from a judge-led mediation style to normal mediation will have more litigants choose mediation compared to litigation.”
