Mediation Booming in Singapore

More than 4,000 Parties Have Voluntarily Engaged in Mediation

Mediation continues to grow in Singapore! Recently, twenty-six organizations engaged in business ranging from transport to property to media signed the Singapore Mediation Charter, pledging to resort to mediation first when resolving disputes. Through initiatives such as the charter, the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) has been promoting mediation since 2002.

Executive director of the SMC, Mr. Loong Seng Onn, said,””Through SMC, more than 4,000 parties have voluntarily engaged in mediation and resolved their disputes in a private manner thus avoiding the costs associated with adjudicatory processes… one of the key advantages of mediation is that parties have control of the outcome and they can come up with their own pragmatic solutions to resolve the dispute.”
