In light of the dispute between Google and Oracle over the Android, the judge has proposed a last-ditch mediation with a magistrate judge since mediation with private mediators has failed in the past. Judge Williams Alsup order that “top executive officers of both sides to be in attendance for one or two complete days” is likely to increase the possible success of the mediation route.
Google mentioned the possibility of settling in the past but whether or not they are pursuing this route is still unknown. The dispute boils down to a dispute over how Android handles Java applications: “Oracle accuses Google of infringing on its Java patents and copyrights in Dalvik, the virtual machine in Android that runs Java applications.”
