Donald Macintyre reporting from Tel Aviv reports on the biggest demonstration in the country’s history where Israelis have taken to the streets to demand economic and social reform. Among the slogans at the protest was an unmistakeable tribute to the peaceful protests seven months ago in Tahrir Square that helped topple Hosni Mubarak: “Walk like an Egyptian.”
The number of Israelis, approximately 300,000, who gathered was more modest than those who gathered in Egypt. One protestor said, “All we want is to get to the end of the month without having to take money from our parents” to pay for bills and her children’s education.
