High divorce rates are predicted for the month of January because many couples hold off separating until after the holiday season. January is considered “Divorce Month” with the most divorced filed in court. Mediation centers expect a busy month.

I think there are going to be a lot of legal disputes in a number of areas in 2012. I would expect there would be more work for personal injury lawyers as companies and people cut corners to save money. Divorce, it seems to me, despite the holiday influx, is a mixed bag - this MSN article suggests that in a bad economy, people tend to stay together. Meanwhile, the economy increases employment lawsuits (Buffalo Law Journal). We may even be able to gauge the economic recovery by the prevalence of some types of lawsuits over others.
