Sudan Looks to Ethiopia for Heglig Mediation

Disputes About Border Town Continue

Omar Hassan al-Bashir, president of Sudan, has asked Ethiopia for support to assist with the escalating tensions with South Sudan over the disputed oil-rich border town, Heglig, which was seized by South Sudan’s army. Mustafa Osman Ismail, an adviser to the Sudanese president,noted that the international community must apply pressure to Juba to withdraw “as quickly as possible and without any conditions.”
