Jakarta Women and Children Look to Community Justice

New Community Justice Program Being Rolled Out in Papua New Guinea’s Vast Village Court System

The New system will ideally bring “international human rights-based laws to rural communities” and will “boost the protection and empowerment of women and children.” Ideally, these laws will help reduce child abuse and domestic violence in a society presently governed by restorative justice. The law will coincide with the present system which involves mediation between parties to preserve social harmony.
