NBA union seeks arbitration over Bird rights issue

Players Seek to Maintain Valuable Rights in Free Agency

NBA player’s association wants to head to arbitration to seek a ruling on whether Jeremy Lin and other players can remain in free agency. The union wants the players to “re-sign with their teams by using the ‘Bird’ or ‘Early Bird’ exceptions to the salary cap” because “those exceptions allow teams to exceed the cap to re-sign their own players.”
