Darfur Mediators Hand Draft Peace Agreement, Urge Sudan and JEM to Make Progress

Amidst the eight year conflict in the Darfur region, Joint Chief Mediators have been working with the three Sudanese parties in the Doha talks. Their draft peace document was given out to the various delegations who participated in the Darfur peace process. A general conference for stakeholders will take place in late May to discuss the content of the agreement.

Any suggestions or amendments to the draft are due May 7, but JEM spokesperson said, “We can’t accept a document we are not party in its elaboration as a framework for the talks, also we are more concerned by peace more than any deadline.”
