The Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless has sued the City of Atlanta among others for allegedly conspiring to sabotage and destroy the shelter. Multiple parties have confirmed that the parties are in negotiations and mediation talks have ensued. Although the substance of the negotiations are being kept private, one key issue is whether confidential information that came to light during discovery will remain private if a settlement agreement is reached.
If the parties don’t settle and there is a jury trial, the shelter could be awarded as much as triple damages in addition to punitive damages. “The Task Force has documented around 25 million dollars in direct losses due to the conspiratorial effort to destroy the shelter.” In the past, other plaintiff’s in similar cases have received tens of millions of dollars.
