Can Senior-Run Mediation Sessions at  Maison de Justice (House of Justice) Change Attitudes Towards Domestic Abuse in Senegal?

Launched in 2004, Maison de Justice is now 18 houses located around Senegal offering free, mediation sessions “hosted by a retired magistrate or clerk living in the district and who has an understanding of the law.” Though it originally handled disputes involving unpaid debts, land, and inheritance, in the past seven years, an increasing number of disputes involve domestic violence. In 2015, the Maison de Justice settled more than 131,500 cases on issues involving gender, physical violence, and inheritance.
