NBA Negotiations Look to Christmas Start

N.B.A. negotiations lasted over twelve hours this past Friday, when representatives for the owners and players gathered at noon and were still talking as of 12:15 a.m. If they reach an agreement this weekend, the N.B.A. will open on Christmas Day and hold a 66-game season.
It was the second meeting of the week, but the first involving all of the key figures since Nov. 10, when negotiations for a new labor deal collapsed. If a deal is reached this weekend, the N.B.A. will compress the schedule and push back the playoffs to squeeze in the 66 games, despite starting eight weeks late.
