Mediator to help hospital and nurses with collective-bargaining agreement
February 12, 2011
A Nursing Association and Medical center invite a federal mediator to help the parties work out a collective-bargaining agreement after more than 15 failed negotiation sessions. The first mediation resulted in impasse where the main sticking point involved extra-pay for nurses who work three-day, 12-hour shifts a week.
Although the first mediation session failed, hopefully the next session will be more successful in bringing the parties closer to resolution. The mediator must help the parties “increase” the pie as they inch closer to settlement in order to overcome impasse.
