Mediation to Prevent Dispute's "Crippling Effect" on Commerce

In a letter to President Obama requesting a federal monitor to help settle a West Coast longshoremen's contract disupte, port CEOs Theodore J. Fick of Seattle and John Wolfe of Tacoma stated the following: "We believe that mediation has become a critical and necessary tool because the parties have been unsuccessful in concluding negotiations after seven months.”
